The Pumpkin Family

The pumpkin family. It all started when I told Seth I was pregnant with our first child, sweet Isaac.

I am pretty sentimental, so in true fashion, I wanted to make this moment special for him. After exhausting the Pinterest search bar on how to tell your husband he will be a father, I decided to take advantage of the current season and keep it simple. A pumpkin family.

So in the fall of 2015, I asked if he wanted to go to a pumpkin patch with me because I NEEDED to get some cute pumpkins to put out on the porch.

We walked around the patch and I placed multiple combinations together trying to find the perfect ones....different sizes, heights, etc. This was no surprise to him as he was used to my detail oriented quirks.

However, he did wonder why I was being extra picky that day. Little did he know that I was looking for the perfect three pumpkins to represent us, and our new little one on the way.

Once I finally settled on the perfect three, we checked out and came home with our unbeknownst to him, pumpkin family.

I went about my business arranging them along with a few other things I had picked up for the big reveal. Then I called him out on the porch and he was just so happy and excited with the news, and our pumpkin family.

Fast forward to 2020, the crazy - weird quarantine year, and I still make a pumpkin family each fall season.

Each pumpkin is picked with care and placed, with a solid white one representing Isaac. I look forward to this tradition every year as it is one way that I can have all our family 'be' together - even if it is only as a pumpkin family. It makes my heart smile every time I see those five perfectly picked pumpkins sitting on my porch and think of him.

Yes, I grieve the loss of my child every day and am so thankful to have a sweet tradition that brings me so much joy, even through sorrow.

So when you walk up to my porch, enjoy my pumpkin family.
